Intergovernmental initiatives, such as the Open Government Partnership and Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, and regional bodies through their Special Rapporteurs and Ombudsman offer opportunities for highlighting the value of access to information for women and platform for encouraging meaningful national commitments. Moreover, if the many international NGOs that promote good governance, accountability and access to information more systematically integrated gender into their approaches, while the gender community simultaneously focused even more on good governance and transparency, advances to women's economic empowerment, better service delivery, participation and the promotion and protection of rights might be realized. This working group will consider the impact of gender on the achievement of their mandates as well as how their work can more expressly support women's greater economic empowerment and rights.  Recommendations from this working group will provide guidance for encouraging greater gender inclusion in their efforts and ideas for explicitly engaging and addressing the gendered aspects of their commissions, with a focus on increasing women's access to critical information.
